Building Capacity

CAPES in proud association with WITS created two industry-specific skills programmes in 2015. The Employment Services Business Management Programme (BMP) and Management Development Programme for Employment Services Professionals (MDP), skills programmes aligned to NQF L5 and L7 respectively, were first rolled out in 2018 and have undergone annual updates to ensure their relevance to the complex, and constantly changing business and labour market conditions. In 2021, to manage C19 restrictions, the programme was run entirely virtually and with great success offering access to the BMP and MDP to 300 individuals from across the country.

Via funding secured through Services SETA, three annual rollouts have taken place – 2018, 2019, and 2021 – and seen 850 individuals fully sponsored through the programmes. Feedback from each cohort has been exceptionally positive with many attesting to the value the programmes have brought in broadening their knowledge, developing their skills, and increasing their confidence to operate compliant, professional, and profitable staffing businesses.

Further funding has been received for another 300 industry players to undergo the programmes in 2022 and we look forward to successfully capacitating more businesses, especially SMME, to not only survive – but thrive – within the disruptive market conditions we find ourselves in.

Been on a fast-learning curve, and now realise how all the pieces fit into the puzzle. As someone who supports recruiters, this has been immensely helpful to improve my understanding & effectiveness

It can be very isolating being alone in a small business; gained much value from working with like-minded individuals.
